In preparation for the inauguration of the ninth National Assembly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, June 10, invited all its senators-elect to two crucial meetings.
The meetings fixed for 8pm and 10pm concurrently, will take place at Governor Nyesom Wike’s lodge in Asokoro district and Abuja respectively.
The invitation partly read: “Dear PDP Senator-Elect, I have been directed by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu CFR, to invite you to a meeting with Governor Wike today.”
According to Nigerian Tribune, sources close to the invited senators revealed that the move was targeted at thwarting plans of the All Progressives Party (APC) in relation to the endorsement of principal members of the ninth Senate.
Describing APC campaign strategies as mischievous, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha said: “There is dignity in silence, and there is mischief in noise-making. So, we maintain a dignified silence because we want a 9th Assembly that will be rancour-free.”
Concerning reports that some PDP lawmakers had endorsed APC Senators-elect for the office of the president of the Senate, Senator Bwacha said: “We speak as a family, friends, that is our tradition; we speak as a family, we are not divided.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that ahead of the inauguration of the ninth National Assembly fixed for Tuesday, June 11, the leadership of the APC was said to be holding an all-important meeting with its senators-elect.
The meeting, presided over by the APC’s national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is being attended by the party’s governors and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Gida Mustapha
